The Role of the Parent

Your child is learning Spanish? Woo-hoo! How can you help? Keep reading!
As a parent, you may place pressure on your child, and that can be helpful. However, when learning a second language, it's actually more helpful if your child feels relaxed instead of anxious. Studies have shown low-stress environments can be conducive to language acquisition, so encourage your child to keep going instead of being upset at their progress.
Next step, and this is HUGE, bring a little Spanish to your casa! Let your child label some things around the house that they know in Spanish with a couple Posts-it. You could also buy the Spanish version of their favorite books like The Little Red Riding Hood or Chicken Little. This will work best with books they are already familiar with. Another fun and easy incorporation of the language is to listen to some fun Spanish tunes before and after school or watch their Netflix favorites in Spanish with English subtitles! Keep it light and fun, and I promise they'll love it! Your support is essential to their success.
